The Antidiabetic Effects of from Cornus officinalis Seed

Abstract
The studies were attempted to evaluate the antidiabetic activities of extract from seed of Cornus officinalis on the hyperglycemia induced by streptozotocin in rats.
The extracts from seed, fruit and fruit with seed of Cornus officinalis were administered before and blood glucose, serum total cholesterol and serum triglyceride levels were determined at 96 hours after streptozotocin injection.
Acute toxicity experiment were also performed in mice to know the reason why the seed of Cornus officinalis was removed in use.
The results were as follows :
1. The blood glucose levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were dose-dependently decrease by the administrations of various fractions of Cornus officinalis. Particularly, the admininstrations of the extracts from fruit with seed and fruit were significantly shown to deminish when compared with strepozotocin control group.
2. The serum total cholesterol levels off streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were significantly decreased by the administrations of the extracts from fruit with seed and fruit of Cornus officinalis.
3. The serum triglyceride levels of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats were significantly decreased by the administratins of the extracts from fruit with seed and fruit of Cornus officinalis.
4. Acute toxicity was shown that LD_50 was more than 4,000§·/§¸ in extracts from seed and fruit of Cornus officinalis.
